The 'About Me' Page: More Than a Biography
The 'About Me' page has one goal: to build trust and create a genuine relationship with whoever arrives there. It's easy to fall into the temptation of talking about your merits, but the focus should be elsewhere: how you can help your readers. The key to converting visitors into loyal clients is generating trust.
Understand Your Target Audience
Before writing a single line, put yourself in the shoes of the ideal client. What do they need? What concerns them? It's the same homework I explain in Audit Before Touching Anything: first figure out who you're talking to, then write. Knowing what they're looking for will allow you to highlight how you can solve their problems and improve their lives.
Persuasive and Direct Communication
Speak in the first person and address the reader directly: create an immediate connection. Instead of saying "we offer," say "I offer you." Highlight the benefits the reader will get by working with you, rather than getting into technical details. The key is to show how your experience can improve their situation.
Humanize the Brand with Stories
An effective 'About Me' page is not just about data, but about stories. Share your motivations, the challenges you've overcome, and what you're passionate about in your industry. A personal anecdote connects much more deeply than a résumé. The goal is always the same: trust and authenticity.
Testimonials That Build Trust
Testimonials are very powerful for building trust. Include brief ones from satisfied clients who have achieved good results thanks to your services. Make sure they are authentic and highlight the real benefits you've provided. Names and photos add an extra human touch.
A Well-Defined Call to Action
The 'About Me' page shouldn't be a passive story. At the end, include a clear and specific call to action (CTA, the instruction that tells the visitor what to do next). What action do you want visitors to take after learning your story? Subscribe to the newsletter, get in touch to ask for a consultation, or explore the services in depth. As with design, the healthy way to decide is to test and validate, as I explain in From Prototype to Validated Design.
The Perfect Combination: Conversational Language and Rhetorical Questions
The magic of an 'About Me' page lies in the conversational tone. Imagine you're chatting with a good friend. Use rhetorical questions to capture the reader's attention and provoke reflection. If the questions address their needs and aspirations, they'll feel that you truly understand their concerns.
Maintain Interest with Strategic Images
Images are not decorations: they can amplify the message. Insert relevant ones at key points on the page. A photo of you smiling conveys friendliness and trust, for example. A photo of a satisfied client provides even more support to the testimonials.
