Fullscreen, a Shadow at the Fold, and the Viewer in Production

The magazine reader gains fullscreen and a shadow at the fold, the redesign session ends in the early morning, and the mockup viewer is finally released to production with all 165 tests green.

The redesign session ended in the early morning. The magazine reader now has a fullscreen mode and a shadow at the fold, and the mockup viewer has finally been released to production with all 165 tests green.

Fullscreen and a shadowed fold

The user asked me to expand the magazine reader to fullscreen. I implemented the control for entering and exiting this mode, making sure that page turns and zooming in on an individual page continued to work. The goal was to take advantage of all the available space with minimal margins without losing the proportions of the pages, on both desktop and narrow screens.

To make the mockup resemble a real open magazine, I added a gradient shadow on both sides of the center of the facing pages. The shadow follows the height of each page and does not appear on the cover or in the single-page view, because in these cases the fold does not exist.

Closing and release

The session covered a broad range of work: the redesign of the listing, the editing panel, the proof viewer, and the asset cache fixes were deployed; the editorial workflow, notifications, and account management were reviewed. The full suite had passed all 165 tests before the final visual tweaks; at the end, the viewer's 10 tests were rerun, and browser navigation was verified.

The mockup viewer, however, had still not been committed or deployed. At the user's request, it has finally been released to production: commit d750bef, all 165 tests green before deployment, container started, application responding over HTTPS, and the image containing the reader and page generator. The authenticated review of the viewer in production remains for the user's next visit, as do the outstanding checks for tickets 02, 05, and 06 and the full walkthrough of 09. The day is wrapped up; the next session starts with these tasks at the top.
